BORN proudly partnered with the South African Society for Research in Music (SASRIM) for their 18th Annual Conference, 2024. The conference, which took place 26-28 July at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, drew together researchers from across the African continent and further afield.
SASRIM’s conferences cover a range of topics engaged not only with musics of Africa, but with music cultures around the world in all their variety and diversity. To mark the collaboration between SASRIM and BORN, the 2024 conference featured a special interest in opera. BORN working team member Naomi André delivered the keynote address, and several BORN members presented papers as part of a series of special panels on opera.
